Simple Fingerless Gloves

Just finished my first attempt at fingerless gloves!  First time I have knitted in about 10 years, and they turned out awesome :D I've also knitted a set for a friend's birthday, and she loved them :)

Fingerless gloves!!

I made fingerless gloves because I previously injured my thumbs, and one of the things that seems to help them is to keep them warm.  Hence the fingerless gloves, so that I can still continue to use my hands to do things while keeping the bases of my thumbs warm!  I now have several pairs, and alternate them depending on the rest of my outfit :)  Especially during winter when I need to keep my thumbs warm to help stop them getting sore.

This pattern makes a ladies size medium using the wool listed below.  Please be kind in judging this pattern - it is one of my first attempts at ever writing a pattern, so let me know if I need to clarify anything or if there is a better way of writing something!

Materials:
  • Size 4.0mm (US 6) circular needles
  • One 50g ball (approx 90m) of 8 ply Shepherd "Colour 4 Me" - 100% pure wool (enough for leftovers)

Abbreviations:

M1L: From the front, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into back of loop
M1R: From the back, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into front of loop
M1LP: From the front, lift loop between stitches with left needle, purl into back of loop

Pattern:

Cast on 38 sts.
8 rows ribbing: K1 P1.
8 rows:  stocking stitch (odd rows K, even rows P)

INSERT THUMB FOR LEFT OR RIGHT HAND (below)

4 rows ribbing: K1 P1
Cast off in P.

Sew side of glove together using tail end of cast off wool and tapestry needle - flat seam works well.

Pattern adapted from and loosely based on combining the patterns Diamond Handwarmers and Instructables Fingerless Gloves, then tweaked by trial and error.

NOTE:  When worked in 8 ply Panda Cotton Blend (50% cotton, 50% acrylic), the same pattern makes a man's size glove, or a ladies size L to XL.

Man's size glove, as being modelled by hubby.
